BANDS

Born from a shared packet of cigarettes and a bottle of cheap cider, Kid Ego are the UK's answer to the glory days of high-octane rock and roll.

Think classic UK punk rock riffs shot from behind aviator sunglasses, leather and leopard print. Think dirt and glam, think cigarettes and lipstick, think engine fire and glitter. Think 'yeah at last a young band not frightened of throwing a few bombs into what is now a very predictable music business' and you're there!

Kid Ego is the brainchild of cocksure vocalist and songwriter Zakk and 80s rock fanatic Rookie after a chance meeting at the annual Leeds music festival. With a vision to bring back great rock 'n' roll they soon recruited metal riff maker Phil on rhythm and the then 15-year-old tubthumper Nickky on drums. Then a very persuasive Zakk hijacked 70's rock influenced local guitar hero Birdy and the line-up was complete. After months of hard graft, July 2005 saw the young five-piece roll their rock show out of the rehearsal rooms and into the bright lights.

Selling out their local York venues, the band quickly caught the attention of the local media and 3 months after their first gig they received a call from The Wildhearts management and an invitation to open the "Rock In The Castle" festival. This turned out to be the bands first big break. The BBC reviewed the performance∑ "Kid Ego took to the stage with the kind of confidence and swagger normally associated with the headliners. Best band for me"

UK tours followed and as news about their sensational live performances spread record companies, festival organisers and media took a keen interest. In April
2006 the band celebrated a newly inked record deal with a co headline performance with Tokyo Dragons at the 13th Birthday Bash, 4000 bikers roared for an encore.

The Ego boys crammed the UK dates in before travelling to the US for a Summer East Coast Tour followed by an amazing kick ass show at Cruefest Hollywood. Then back to the UK and a Main stage appearance at the cult Wickerman Festival where they performed with such legends as The Sensational Alex Harvey band, New model Army and Marky Ramone. They ignited the main stage and this before they had released anything!

In September 2006, the band unleashed their debut album "Ignite The Tide" through independent rock label Rock Revolution. Under the guidance of producer Will Jackson (Kaiser Chiefs, The Music) the lads nailed twelve stonewall classics combining the ferocity of heavy punk and the power of 80s rock vocals. Whether it's the guitar licks and drum rolls of "Lady Conniver", the rock stomp of "Till I Die", the sing-a-long tales of lust and lunacy in "Heartbreak Hooker" or the bass heartbeat of alcohol fuelled anthem "Hellshot", the album is on fire from first note to last cymbal crash. And there is more to come as the band are already preparing for the follow up showcasing new track "One In The Pink" at recent live shows.

On the road, the boys have kick-started their musical mission to chase dreams, break hearts and smear lipstick wherever they go. In just over one year they've managed to high jump the toilet tour and settle into an intensive touring schedule packing out some of the most prestigious rock venues in the UK.

And now they're looking to 2007 with a 30 date US roadtrip booked in for Feb/March, more festivals across the year, then gigs, gigs and more gigs. Oh and yeah they've already written a second album! As they play hard and party harder, it definitely seems the future of hard rock belongs to one band∑Kid Ego.
